Celebrating your traditions as a family in business together can be an essential part of supporting the trust, communication and comraderie so essential to the harmony of both the family and the business systems. Having regular events like an annual Family Senate meeting can be a good tactic to encourage famly solidarity. When planning a Family Senate meeting or other annual event, it is important to get non-working and/or non-owning family members involved and excited about the event and the process of organizing it. Spouses, retired, non-working and or non-owing family members may experience feelings of alienation from the business of the family.
One way to get them involved is to have them collect family histories and/or photos of the individuals, physical structures and businesses of the family. They can be gathered together by a committee and presented at the annual meeting in the form of a scrapbook, slide show or even a Custom Memory Quilt.
