Although the dictionaries do not recognize, identify, and define any real differences between an Entrepreneur and a Business Owner, they exist! They may both own/operate a business, but none-the-less they are totally different characters.
An Entrepreneur is a Dream Speculator, driven by Creating a New Innovative Idea or driven by the challenge of Making a New Product/Service Successful.
The Entrepreneur may or may not set up or own their own business to market their offering(s). Owning the business is not as important as the vision, the possibilities, and the offering itself.
Business Owners may be entrepreneurs. They are more likely to be management and operations oriented. These non-entrepreneur owners appear less aggressive and often limit taking chances. They are more comfortable seeking products and/or services that have proven track records, or are known to be in high demand. They are best at buying into a franchise or simulating and duplicating competitive or existing businesses, or adding value to current in-demand offerings.
Is one better than the other? Not really. Success begins with knowing who you are, your strengths and weaknesses, and improving yourself. Trying to be Somebody Else works well for impressionists! Even then, they only focus on certain key characteristics.
Many Business Owners are stronger at managing and operating their company. In fact, they are more likely to grow with their business. Their strengths allow them to deal with ongoing growth challenges, constantly adapting to such changing factors as markets, governments, resources and the like.
